Back by popular demand

Been a while which means 1 thing - I'm actually having to work for a living. Been travelling to New Jersey, which is an entry for another time.

For now, I"m watching the Saints first pre-season game and have a few thoughts:

• Devery Henderson must have naked pictures of Tom Benson. I have no ideal why this guy is on an NFL roster. He has yet to catch a pass in 4 years.
• Reggie Bush is something special. He looks fast even on an NFL field. He will account for probably half of the Saints' yards this year - unfortunately, that'll probably be about 15 yards per game.
• The Saints have no defense and are going 4-12 this year.
• I hope Drew Brees is still hurt. If this is him healthy, we're in bigger trouble than I thought. He doesn't look good, especially when throwing to Henderson.

Going to Vegas next weekend. Should have plenty of stories I can't post :)

Besides the fact that if this guy is tall enough to rape a kid, he's damn sure tall enough to be in the clink, what does this say as far as 'equal rights' and a 'fair trial' for all? Should someone get preferential treatment because of a physical characteristic (not a handicap, mind you, but just a chracteristic)?

Fans send flowers and candy to injured horse

How deep must you be involved in contemporary 'idol-obsession' to send flowers and candy to an freaking horse? Really. What motivates a person to do this? What need are they filling in their own 'being' by taking the time and effort to send a card and flowers to a horse? Is it just plain celebrity obsession? Are they 'animal lovers' to the extent that they would sacrifice their own time and money to heap condolences on a horse that just wishes they'd shoot him to end his misery?

On an related note, there is an organization that raises money inorder to buy retired racehorses so they're not sold to Europeans who eat them. I remember a couple of years ago when some journalist discovered that formerly famous horse had been eaten - a good number of people were outraged. I'm not really sure how I feel about eating racehorse, per se, but I'm wondering what makes some animals 'edible' and others off limits? My personal standard is it is taboo to eat any animal that is a) human or b) tastes bad. Other than that, I'm really OK with it. So where is the line drawn, and why?

Grasshoppers Win! Grasshoppers Win! Holy Cow!

JJ went 3-4 last night in a game that featured a few testy exchanges between the opposing coaches. Apparently, the coach of the other team thinks it's cool to argue every call made by the 14-year-old umpire who's getting paid $15 a game. MIght be a bit much for 7-year-old coach pitch, but what do I know?

Katrina Video

A parish near Boston adopted St. Paul's in Pass Chrisitan. A large group of folks came down from Mass. in October and have since been raising funds to rebuild the church. They've raised over $50,000 for reconstruction, and also put together a video to use in their efforts. It is linked at the top right of this page:

It's sort of destruction-centric, but then again it's a fund-raising video. Not sure how many people would give money if you only showed homes still standing. Anyway, it brought me back for a few moments.

Jax got to play against his best friend this weekend, which was fun when Jax was playing catcher and his friend was batting. YOu could see them jawing at each other the whole time. J played a pretty good ball game and the GHoppers won going away. 2 games left on the season, Tue and Thu this week (so I will miss both of them). Best part was the Krispy Kremes for the team snack (the game started at 8am).

I'm late in posting this, but this past Saturday the 'Hoppers moved to 6-1 by defeating the 'Lug Nuts' 19-14. JJ made 2 very good defensive plays in left field. He went 1-3 at the plate with 2 Ks and a small crying fit (the 2nd strikeout really upset him). Anyway, we're looking forward to picking the average back up this weekend.

Actually, the 'new look' wasn't a choice. My old template was throwing errors and mis-aligning everything, so I am using a new one. I don't like it as much. Maybe I'll get sophisticated enough one day to figure out how to improve it.
